New NEC activities to meet objectives

New NEC activities to meet 2010 objectives

NEC computers have now also the ECO CENTER platform officially available in Europe. The new version 2 of this its managed virtualisation system specifically for Data centres. Also NEC appointed APX as their new service provider to meet NEC's growth objectives. All these activities are in response to the international strategy to pursue and intensify its IT Infrastructure activities in 2010.

EcoCenter Managed Virtualisation System and Green

The growth in hosting servers containing critical data, energy and space savings are crucial challenges for Data centres. This is linked to the increasing and regular growth in the volume of data processed. The NEC Express5800/ECO CENTER meets these challenges by offering a solution which combines:

  • A platform dedicated to virtualisation which marries power and a reduction in energy consumption

  • The SigmaSystemCenter (SSC) operating tool to optimise energy consumption and simplify solution administration

  • An "in the rack" Data centre architecture to ease network and storage integration.

Thus, NEC offers a modular platform which adapts to company needs. It is possible to buy servers as and when needed in the form of a 2 standard server module, which is easy to install and administer; or to invest in a set of 10 modules compatible with all types of rack; or even to install storage and network switches with around forty servers or, finally, to load the bay with 80 servers.

With its technological knowledge, NEC and its ECO CENTER enable companies to achieve savings of up to 50% on electricity consumption, at the same time as reducing the weight and space taken up by the rack by up to 50%.

New service provider to meet objectives in 2010

As you are already aware, NEC Computers SAS ceased the marketing and manufacture of traditional desktops and notebooks in EMEA. As a result of this change, NEC is relocating the enterprise business to a newer and far more efficient plant in Europe. NEC has been committed to deliver services for the past year without any changes. The new activities have driven the organisation to review its service strategy.

NEC is in the process of transferring the operations aspect of service delivery to APX (member of the Getronics Workspace Alliance), in order to provide better service delivery for its enterprise products. As of the 6th of April 2010, the operation related to the order, the delivery, the return, the refunding of the spare parts and the payment of the interventions will be carried out by APX which will act as subcontractor of NEC Computers. APX will provide the NEC Servers and Storage System Service, as well as continuity of service for the installed NEC PC and portables base (more than 1.5 million machines) in Europe.

Services for Enterprise Solutions

APX's knowledge and experience in after sales service management will guarantee a high quality service, in line with NEC customer expectations. APX will provide an Information Management service offering a multilingual helpdesk, maintenance work management, warehouse and logistics management, as well as relations. The organisation will handle the total scope of services, whilst NEC will keep control of vital service & support functions for the Enterprise business.

To provide a high quality service to the users of NEC's products, APX has implemented significant resources for this business: a team of more than one hundred people, an
information system managing the relationship with NEC's clients as well as a store of 6000m² to hold the 400,000 spare parts and a unique NEC dedicated call centre. This will enable NEC to strengthen its Server, Storage System and Fault Tolerant System range by offering service solutions which meet our customer expectations.

The transfer of services between the previous service provider and APX is taking place at the moment. APX will be operational on the whole range of NEC products and services in April 2010.
